The San Francisco 49ers lost a handful of players to injury in their NFC Championship loss to the Seattle Seahawks which included Frank Gore, Mike Iupati and NaVorro Bowman.

They also apparently lost Patrick Willis, who seemed unlike himself during the game.

Willis – while not ineffective – wasn’t his normal destructive self and that could be attributed to the fact he was nursing a hand injury. What type? That’s currently unknown, but the Sacramento Bee reports the All-Pro linebacker recently underwent hand surgery.

"Add Patrick Willis to the list of 49ers getting off-season tune-ups. The 49ers’ inside linebacker had recent surgery on his left thumb and is now in a cast, as recent photos from his Instagram account show and as a league source confirmed."

Willlis has had a history of hand problems so it’s not exactly shocking to hear he had trouble, though anytime an operation is required you have some worry.

It’s not know when Willis suffered the injury though he was not listed on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.

He’s expected to be just fine come training camp next season.
