Tyler Jonson of the Tampa Bay Lightning scored a hat rick as the team went on to beat the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night.

It was Johnson’s first of his career, and his coach couldn’t be happier. From the Associated Press,

“Fairly decent timing on Tyler’s part to net three in this game,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “He was on it tonight.”

Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov was supposed to get the night of on Saturday but replaced Sami Aittokallio in the third period after letting three goals past him on 18 shots.

“It’s not easy for him, and I certainly understand that,” coach Patrick Roy said. “But at the same time, I thought we had some momentum and it was the call to make at that moment. If I had a crystal ball, yes, I would have kept him there.”

Tampa Bay will travel up north to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, while the Colorado Avalanche will be visiting the Dallas Stars on Monday.
