Barcelona had a little shift at the top of the club when Barcelona President Sandro Rosell stepped down amid the Neymar transfer controversy. Josep Maria Bartomeu has stepped in as Barcelona’s new president, and he wants to make one think clear right off the bat.
“Messi is not for sale,” Bartomeu said speaking to Catalan radio station RAC1, via Sky Sports. “We want to sit down, without any rush, with his father and his agent because we want to ensure he’s the best-paid player like he deserves. It won’t be anything imminent because the players right now are focused on competition.”
The idea that Barcelona would sell their biggest star and arguably the world’s best player is somewhat ridiculous. Messi’s father has previously stated that Lionel would stay put.
“I have heard about those rumours and I don’t know where it came from,” Jorge Messi told L’Equipe when asked about PSG’s reported interested.
“There is nothing so far. Lionel is a Barcelona player, where he is under contract for several years [until 2018].
“It is an honour to know PSG could think about him. But I repeat it is not a subject we want to think about now.
“The only reality is his contract with Barca. I don’t know what we are talking about when people talk about a transfer here or there. We don’t want to think about anything, neither Paris nor any other team.”
