According to Golf Channel Digital, Bubba Watson averaged 309.9 yards off the tee at the Farmers this past week. Watson’s ability to hit the long ball is one of his strengths, especially at the 7,600-yard Torrey Pines South course. The 2011 Farmers champion finished T23 at three-under total.
On Thursday, Watson drove the ball over the 329-yard second hole on the North course.
On Friday, Watson hit driver-driver on the South’s 614-yard thirteenth, and came up 10 yards short of the green.
Watson currently ranks second on the PGA Tour in average driving distance at 309.9 yards. Jason Kokrak leads the PGA Tour at 312.4 yards. 23 players on the PGA Tour are averaging at least 300 yards per drive.
Driving distance numbers are impressive, but after watching the pros play the Farmers, I am convinced short game matters most. Scott Stallings hit four fairways on Sunday, but shot four-under with only 25 putts. After all the talk of how high the rough was at Torrey, Stallings showed making putts is how you win the tournament.
