Heated rivals Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen are currently filming season three of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, where they are serving as coaches opposite each other. The two have had a long rivalry that has been in headlines for the past few years, but now things have reached a boiling point.
UFC president Dana White said that the filming for this season of the show has been one of the most intense we have ever seen, and the two men actually came to blows during filming.
“Wanderlei and Chael fought,” White said during a media luncheon, via MMAFighting.com. “Just today. They literally fought.”
White wouldn’t go into details, but White said that the two fought for a while and a member of Silva’s coaching staff even got involved with a sucker punch.
“While they were fighting one of Wanderlei’s guys sucker punched Chael,” White said. “They went crazy, crazy s— happened there. We’re dealing with that right now too. … They literally fought today, it went on for awhile.”
It is unfortunate that the two men couldn’t hold off until their fight later this year, but that is what happens when you get two men who hate each other in the same room with a tense environment.
White understands that the fight may help promote the upcoming season of TUF, but it was an avoidable situation that didn’t need to happen.
“It’s one of those things, it’s on a reality show, it’s good and it’s bad,” White said. “A fight didn’t need to break out between these two for people to be excited about this fight, because these two have been at each other’s throats.”
