UFC featherweight Cole Miller has won three of his last four fights, and he has been busy calling out his fellow fighters after the recent wins. Miller has specifically called out Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor in his most recent victories, but some people don’t believe Miller deserves those fights.
There are fans of mixed martial arts who say that Miller is simply a “gatekeeper” and not a man who can reach the elite level in the sport, but Miller is embracing the role and is ready to prove everyone wrong.
“I don’t like people coming into the UFC, and the guy’s got the whole fighting Irish gimmick going on, and he jumps to the front of the line,” Miller said, via MMAFighting.com. “And a lot of people…I’ve got a lot of people on Twitter saying shut-up you gatekeeper bitch, and I’m sitting there thinking, that’s exactly what I’m saying.
“I don’t even think that [being called a gatekeeper is] a bad thing to say. I’ve worked my ass off. I’ve had my ups and downs in my career, and if at that point I’m a gatekeeper, you’re damn right I’m a gatekeeper. And I’ve f—ing earned that. So let me do my job and throw these guys like Conor McGregor in my way, so we can find out just how good they are.”
Miller is right. There is nothing wrong with being a gatekeeper.
That said, Miller has been on a roll and the label of “gatekeeper” is not giving Miller the credit that he deserves.
It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches Miller against in his next bout, but there are plenty of people who will be hoping that he gets the match up that he has been calling for with McGregor.
