The Detroit Red Wings have been a relative MASH unit this season as they have lost stars Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen, Jimmy Howard and Henrik Zetterberg, among others to a myriad of injuries this season, and while Datsyuk and Howard are nearing a return, the same can’t be said definitively for Zetterberg.
According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Howard will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers which gives optimism for the Wings who currently occupy the seventh best record in the Eastern Conference.
However, Zetterberg who was a late scratch on Sunday with another back injury, and Datsyuk will not travel with the team. Datsyuk is considered ‘close to returning’ and Zetterberg is listed as day-to-day, however that doesn’t mean he’s a lock to return for Friday’s contest vs. the Washington Capitals.
“I don’t know the answer to that question,” Babcock responded when asked if Zetterberg is dealing with the same injury that sidelined him in December. “I just know it’s a back thing. So we’ll see him tomorrow and know more tomorrow.”
Day-to-day has turned into week-to-week far too many times already this season for Detroit fans and their players who have lost the second most games to injury this season in the NHL.
