A few days back, Chicago Cubs general manager Theo Epstein told local media the Cubs’ offseason was not complete. He hinted at more additions coming in the next few weeks, specifically pitching.
#Cubs inquired on Santana, I’m told that it’s “not impossible” that he could go there. Wouldn’t say it’s likely at this time.
Santana, like many other pitchers (Matt Garza, Bronson Arroyo, etc) has been waiting for the market to set itself once Masahiro Tanaka was signed, but Santana still remains steadfast in his contractual demands according to the rumor mill.
In addition to the Cubs, the Toronto Blue Jays have also shown interest in Santana – but they are looking to make multiple additions to their starting rotation and may opt to split their finances among two arms.
Regardless, it appears as if he’s going to need to lower his contractual demands or he’s going to head into Spring Training without a job.
