NBA Rumors: Paul Pierce was devastated Celtics traded him

While the hearts of many who bleed green and white were broken when the Boston Celtics traded Paul Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets this past offseason, no heart bled more than Pierce’s.

The veteran who had spent his entire career with the Celtics organization knew he was on the trade block, but once the rumors became reality, he was devastated according to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan.

Pierce was not presented with the precious option of determining his own fate. This fact stung him; staggered him, actually. Even though he knew it was coming, when the Celtics finally traded him, he was devastated.

Not only was Pierce upset over the trade, he wondered why he wasn’t given the same opportunity as so many greats before him – the opportunity to spend an entire career with one organization.

Of course, the Celtics were going no place with Pierce at the helm and change needed to be made from a business standpoint. But that understandably doesn’t make the move hurt any less.

Where you been? Who told you this story? This is so far from what actually happened it must be your fantasy. Pierce and Garnett knew they were going to leave and wanted to go too a contender to try for another ring. They both were in on this move and welcomed it. They also knew that they would always be treated like royalty in Boston no matter what happened, they were very comfortable with the change. At the time it seemed to be a good thing for all but the Nets never got going until recently. I hope these guys have a great season and will see them both at retirement as a Celtic and when both numbers are pulled to the roof.
