Tito Ortiz charged with DUI for accident earlier this month

Tito Ortiz has had a string of bad luck recently. After attempting to rejuvenate his career in Bellator, Ortiz suffered a fractured neck that forced Bellator to scrap their planned pay per view that was to be headlined by Ortiz vs Rampage Jackson. While rehabbing his neck, Ortiz went to a party at the Playboy Mansion earlier this month. Unfortunately for Ortiz, he chose to drink and drive, and was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an early morning crash.

Today, TMZ broke the news that Ortiz has been charged with two counts of DUI. Ortiz, after a night of drinking, crashed on the L.A. Freeway leading to his arrest. Ortiz supposedly blew a .12 on the breathalyzer, .04 over the legal limit. If Ortiz is convicted of a DUI, he could face up 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Since it is a first time offense, it is more likely that he will not be serving any prison time.

As for Ortiz’s MMA career, he still hopes to return to the Bellator cage in 2014. Unfortunately for Ortiz, doctors have warned him that with his most recent injury, he could risk paralysis if he steps back inside the cage. It is possible that Ortiz will be denied a license due to the risk of paralysis.
