Rousimar Palhares finally has a date and opponent set for his World Series of Fighting debut. It was announced on Monday morning that the Brazilian submission ace will make his promotional debut at World Series of Fighting 9 on March 29 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas.
Palhares’ debut in the promotion will come with a title shot against welterweight champion Steve Carl, in a bout that will headline the event.
“Rousimar has long been considered one of the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners on the planet,” WSOF President Ray Sefo said, via MMAjunkie, com. “But Steve Carl has submitted all three opponents he’s faced in the World Series of Fighting decagon, including his October win over Josh Burkman to become champion. I think this is going to be an incredible championship fight and a memorable main event.”
Palhares was released by the UFC in October after failing to let go of a heel hook that he locked in on Mike Pierce, but now he will begin his road to redemption.
WSOF 9 tickets go on sale this week. No other bouts are announced at this time, but Sefo said that we can expect more information on the event in the coming weeks.
