NBA legend and Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson isn’t shy in giving his opinion. Some may even suggest he does it too much and I can’t help but think his most recent comments about Mike D’Antoni will ruffle a few feathers.
Johnson appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno recently and was pressed about the Lakers. Not holding any punches, Magic essentially called the hiring of Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni a mistake, suggesting he doesn’t coach defense and he liked him….in Phoenix.
In addition, Magic talked about the Lakers upcoming free agent plans and suggested the team needs to finish the season strong in hopes of securing a top name free agent in the offseason. His reasoning? None of the elite free agents (LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony) want to play for a team who isn’t in contention for an NBA championship.
Johnson also tackled non-NBA news like sharing his disappointment in Dennis Rodman for holding a basketball game in North Korea and his interest in Super Bowl XLVIII.
