While rumors have suggested the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have interest in free agent pitchers Bronson Arroyo and Paul Maholm, it’s unlikely any deal will be struck. In fact, if the Angels are to sign a pitcher before the team enters Spring Training, it’s more likely they’ll sign either Jason Hammel or Chris Capuano, this according to Mike DiGovanna.
Not sensing urgency on part of
#Angels to add SP, but if they do, they seem to be leaning more toward Hammel or Capuano than Arroyo-Maholm.
As DiGovanna notes, there doesn’t seem to be a strong sense of urgency on the Angels to sign a pitcher. So if something is to get done, it’s likely going to be because either Hammel or Capuano are looking to secure a contract before the start of the season and will play on a team friendly contract.
Neither Capuano nor Hammel would be considered a top flight addition, though Hammel did have a very solid 2012. His 2013 season was far more disappointing however, so it’s unknown which pitcher the Angels would be signing.
