NHL Rumors: Phoenix Coyotes want outdoor Stadium Series hockey game in Arizona

The NHL is currently going on a Stadium Series tour that is seeing games played outdoors in football and baseball stadiums across the country. So far we’ve seen games in Michigan, Los Angeles and New York with Chicago set to get a game as well. Many were amazed that an outdoor hockey game worked in Los Angeles, and that has other warm weather cities with hockey teams wondering if they can get a Stadium Series game as well.

One of those teams are the Phoenix Coyotes, who have apparently been making a push to get a Stadium Series game in Arizona. The Arizona Republic interviewed Coyotes chairman and governor George Gosbee recently who said a push is being made to get a game outdoors in Arizona.

I’m even more convinced that we could do it in Arizona. Obviously, we’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to do it and hopefully we’ve presented a good case. We know there’s lots of other teams that want it. It’s such a unique event. We’re going to keep trying to get it in Arizona, and after seeing it in LA, I’m sure it could work in Phoenix.

It may seem unlikely that a game can work in the desert of Arizona, but of it worked better in Los Angeles than it did in snowy New York, anything is possible with the Stadium Series.
