Los Angeles must indeed be one of the cities of the future because in 2016 competitors there will run, run, run.

(Sorry.)

USA Track & Field announced on Wednesday that the city will host the 2016 Olympic marathon trials on February 16, 2016.

Max Siegel, CEO of USATF, said Los Angeles hosting the event is an exciting opportunity:

We are thrilled with what Los Angeles will provide to our athletes, the Olympic movement and the sport of long distance running by hosting this event. With television coverage on NBC and incredible public and private support for the race in one of the world’s biggest media markets, everything is in place to continue to elevate the Olympic Trials and give our athletes a platform on which they can truly shine (Runner’s World).

The rest of the track trials will be held in Eugene, Oregon. Since those trials aren’t scheduled to begin until July 1, marathon runners also looking to compete for a spot on the Olympic 10,000-meter team will have over four months to rest.
