MLB Rumors: Orioles, Mets still interested in Fernando Rodney

Both the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets are in need of a closer. Few left in the free agent pool are better than Fernando Rodney, so it makes sense both teams still have interest in the unsigned fireman.

The Mets and Orioles have been rumored to be interested in Rodney for some time and that interest remains according to Chris Cotillo. However, it appears Rodney is still going to let the market develop around him and may not sign ‘for a while’:

Hearing #Orioles, #Mets still in on Fernando Rodney, but “it’ll be a while” until he signs, according to one source.

It’s not known why Rodney is planning to wait on signing a contract considering teams in need of a closer will likely either sign another player or opt to use an in-house option (something the Orioles have considered). It’s possible he may be attempting to miss some of the grind of Spring Training or is looking to find a team in desperate need.
