The NHL has struck gold with the idea of holding games outdoors, and that means we can expect to see more games each year. But while the games will continue each year, the amount of them have been reduced. We’ve seen the extremes of the spectrum, as the NHL went from holding just one game in 2011-12 to six this season.

According to Darren Dreger from TSN, the league will have four Stadium Classic games in 2014 that will include a lot or new teams getting into the mix.

While just having one game outdoors each year wasn’t enough, having six was clearly too many and four games seems to be the happy balance between the two.

The NHL has yet to officially announce the exact amount of games to be played in 2014-15 but four looks like a really good number.
