Head coach James Franklin and his Penn State Nittany Lions went into Florida to get their latest commitment on Thursday when 3-star defensive back Amani Oruwariye made his pledge to Penn State.
Oruwariye attends Gaither High School in Tampa Florida.
“Yes, Amani has committed to Penn State,” Gaither head coach Jason Stokes told Sean Fitz of 24/7 Sports.
Like several other recruits, Oruwariye was a former Vanderbilt Commodore commit. He committed to Vanderbilt in October in hopes of playing for Franklin, but decommitted just over two weeks ago after receiving a new offer from Franklin at Penn State. He officially visited Penn State last weekend and that was seemingly enough to seal the deal.
The 6-1, 180-pound Oruwariye is considered the 50th best cornerback, 105th best player in Florida and 691st best overall player in the class of 2014, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Oruwariye had offers from many schools, including the Arizona Wildcats, Boston College Eagles, Louisville Cardinals, Michigan State Spartans, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, South Florida Bulls and Central Florida Knights, among others.
