Five-star defensive tackle Matt Elam chooses Kentucky Wildcats

On Thursday, one of the top recruits left to decide in the nation, five-star defensive tackle Matt Elam, pledged his collegiate allegiance to the Kentucky Wildcats, spurning one of the top programs in the country in the Alabama Crimson Tide, and giving second-year head coach Mark Stoops a huge recruiting feather in his cap.

Less than a week before signing day, Elam let it be known that he’ll be staying in his home state of Kentucky to help Stoops build up the Wildcats program that has been the bottom feeder in the SEC for quite some time now.

As you can see above, Elam is a force on the defensive side of the ball. At 6-5 and 372-pounds, Elam is projected as a true nose tackle at the next level, and should give the Kentucky defense an immediate boost right off the bat in 2014.

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Elam is the 21st overall prospect in the nation and the no. 3 overall defensive tackle of the 2014 class.
