PGA Tour: Waste Management Phoenix Open recap (round one)

Y.E. Yang and Bubba Watson share the first round lead at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.  Watson and Yang both shot seven-under 64s to take a one stroke lead.  The two players approach the game in different ways with Bubba averaging 309.9 yards off the tee to Yang’s 285.4 yard average.  However, they know how to score, and will look to jump in front of the pack with a low round tomorrow.

Harris English was in the driver’s seat after birdieing 15 to get his round to eight-under, but he bogied 16 and 18 to fall back in a tie for third at six-under.  English is one of seven players tied for third place.

Pat Perez, Kevin Stadler, William McGirt, Greg Chalmers, Matt Jones, Harris English, and Chris Kirk are tied for third after firing six-under 65s in the first round.

Perez finished T2 at the Farmers Insurance Open, and continues to play well.  He decided to putt left-hand low at the Farmers, and is rolling in birdies.

Eight players are tied for tenth place at five-under including Hunter Mahan and Keegan Bradley.

My pick for the week: Graham DeLaet shot a four-under 67.

Player to watch: Kiradech Aphibarnrat is four-under through 15.  He is from Thailand, and at 24 years old, has the potential to be a great player.
