Super Bowl: Todd Helton plans to attend to cheer for Peyton Manning

Even though the Colorado Rockies did not have much of a season, they enjoyed a miniature thrill at the end of the season as Todd Helton enjoyed his final hurrah on his way to retirement.

Save for his accomplishments on the Rockies, the best thing Helton did for the state of Colorado in recent years was helping to recruit Peyton Manning. The two were teammates at the University of Tennessee and have remained friends ever since. As Manning considered his future after the end of his time with the Indianapolis Colts, Helton hosted him in Colorado. He arranged for him to rehab at the Rockies facility and even ran routes for him as he tried throwing again.

For those of you who know, Helton is not exactly a burner. Even still, Manning treated it like the real thing. As Helton described it for Troy Renck of the Denver Post:

“You can’t believe how competitive he his. He was critiquing the patterns, and getting on guys..”

Manning was in attendance for Helton’s final emotional game at Coors Field this past season. On a stage of a whole different magnitude, Helton said he plans to return the favor and attend Super Bowl 48 to cheer on his buddy. If the ‘Toddfather’ witnesses Manning capturing his second Super Bowl, it would cap off one heck of a year for those two.
