Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Dana White is a very successful businessman like World Wrestling Entertainment’s Vince McMahon. Sure McMahon has been in the game a lot longer than White, but these two men run two of the most popular and watched companies on the entire planet.
As we all know, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar first put himself on the map once he signed with the WWE over a decade ago. Lesnar climbed the rankings and eventually became the biggest star of the company.
So with Brock Lesnar still working with the WWE, White mentioned how Lesnar is still interested in fighting once again with the UFC. But with Brock re-signing another contract with Vince McMahon’s company, his return could be delayed unless White could convince the almighty McMahon to allow him to work for both companies.
It’s no surprise that someone brought up CM Punk’s name to Dana White during UFC 169′s media day yesterday. Punk has done some training with the Gracie family over the years and was rumored to be interested in joining the UFC.
When hearing the news of Punk’s departure, Dana seemed a bit surprised about the former WWE/World Heavyweight Champions decision. Here’s what the President of the UFC had to say:
“He quit [the WWE]? Really? No, he hasn’t said a word to me [about fighting in the UFC]. He hasn’t reached out to me. I was with him all night in Chicago, he never said a word about it. He just showed up. We talked about a lot of things, fighting was not one of them. I like him, he’s a great guy. It’s a little late to get into the game, but who knows if he can fight? I don’t know. We’ll see what happens, but I like him a lot. He’s a nice guy.” Dana White from BJPenn.com via NoDQ.com
Brock Lesnar isn’t the only man who went from the world of professional wrestling to jump into the world of mixed martial arts. You have recent guys like Dave “The Animal” Bautista and Bobby Lashley who had an MMA run of their own.
Will CM Punk be the next? I highly doubt it, but it would be very interesting if he made an attempt.
