Wilson Betemit signs minor league deal with Rays

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting that infielder Wilson Betemit has signed a minor-league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Betemit, who has spent the last two seasons in Baltimore, was sidelined for most of 2013 with a knee injury. In 2012, Betemit hit .261/.322/.422 over 102 games with the Orioles, primarily playing third base.

Wilson, going into his age-32 season, is known more for being a decent utility man and a bat off of the bench with a serviceable glove. The 11-year veteran will be competing for a spot on the Rays’ bench.
