Boston Bruins defenseman and captain Zdeno Chara will be out for the team’s final two games before the NHL takes a break for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. It was widely speculated that Chara would miss the two games, but it was confirmed on Saturday.
The Bruins made the announcement on Twitter:
Julien confirms Chara will miss the final 2 games before Olympic break (vs St. Louis & Ottawa) to head to Sochi for opening ceremonies ^CS

Chara is leaving the team early in order to make it to Sochi in time to carry the flag for Slovakia in the Olympics’ opening ceremonies.
Boston will be taking on the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 6 and the division rival Ottawa Senators on Feb. 8 before the team takes their Olympic break. The Bruins currently have a four-point lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division, so they will be hoping to hang on to the lead without one of their top players.
