Who’s on first?
Not only is that the title of the classic Abbot & Costello routine that got revived last season and reenacted by many teams across the MLB bringing a new audience to the old classic, but that is also a key question for your fantasy baseball team.
So far, the position previews have focused on AL and NL catchers followed by my pre-Spring Training overall ranking for the position. Today, the focus is on first base as we look at the American League first basemen team by team looking at who played the position for each time last season, who is projected to play the position this season, and what fantasy value each team’s option presents for us.
First Base is typically a position you can get pretty solid production from so having a big bat is a necessity if you expect to contend for your league’s offensive categories. There is also plenty of depth at the position, so waiting until late in the draft if you miss the elite options isn’t necessarily a bad idea if you can tap the right sleeper who will give you production even though you get them late.
