New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has yet to be named the team’s starter for 2014, which has led to some speculation about whether or not the job is his to lose entering the offseason.

The Jets are expected to add another quarterback during the offseason to compete with Smith and back up Matt Simms, but Smith appears to be unfazed but the non-commitment from Jets head coach Rex Ryan so far.

“The confidence I have in myself, this is my job,” Smith said, via the New York Post. “”It just means more competition. It gives me that fire I’ve always had in me. … It’s going to make me work harder, make me tougher, make me work that much harder in [organized team activities] if I have someone to compete against.”

Smith has had the support of his teammates in recent interviews, so he may be the favorite among those in the locker room.

However, if Smith’s level of play doesn’t back up the confidence that his teammates have shown, the Jets quarterback situation could be up in the air throughout training camp.
