When the news of the Indiana Pacers signing Andrew Bynum came out today, some folks began tossing around the idea that the Pacers only made the move to keep Bynum away from the Miami Heat.

According to Indiana team president Larry Bird, that assumption is asinine.

We don’t have the money to throw around and let them sit on our bench. That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Well, there ya have it.

Head coach Frank Vogel also chipped in his thoughts on the signing:

He knows this is the right place for him. We believe we’re the right place for him, also. He expressed that he wants to fit in, which is the word we like to hear around here with our team-first mentality.
