Rejoice, track and field fans!
In a statement issued on Friday, the Track and Field Athletes’ Association (TFAA) announced a new partnership with the American Track League. According to the release, the first-of-its-kind partnership will “increase the number of viable competitive opportunities for track and field athletes.”
Adam Nelson, head of the TFAA, said the new agreement will also benefit fans:
The TFAA is excited to partner with the American Track League to support a new league that will offer tremendous opportunities and visibility to our sport in the United States. A domestic series of events offers the American sports fan multiple opportunities to witness Olympic-level competition and interact with the world’s greatest athletes. It also gives the athletes something we’ve wanted and needed for a long time: a domestic professional circuit.
The inaugural American Track League season will begin on May 2 with a meet in Bloomington, Indiana. Meets will also be held in Charlottesville (May 9), Atlanta (May 16), Austin (May 23), and Houston (June 6).
