With National Signing Day rapidly approaching, Saturday was the last time that coaches were permitted contact with 2014 recruiting prospects. Well, this fact brought upon what had to be one of the most awkward moments ever, when both the Alabama Crimson Tide coaching staff and the Auburn Tigers coaching staff paid a visit to 5-star linebacker prospect Rashaan Evans–at the same time.
The Auburn High School product was visited by member’s of both coaching staffs at his home on Saturday evening for his grandfather’s 80th birthday celebration. Evans’ father probably described it best as he called it a once-in-a-lifetime event.
“It was Bama and Auburn in the same room. Really a once in a lifetime event,” said the elder Evans.
Representing Auburn for this happening was head coach Gus Malzahn who was flanked by his entire defensive coaching staff, while Alabama was represented by defensive coordinator Kirby Smart who was joined by three of his assistants on the defensive side of the ball.
According to the 247 Composite rankings, Evans is the top-rated outside linebacker prospect in the country, and he is set to announce his decision Wednesday morning at 10 am ET.
