As announced in a press release last week, ASICS has signed 24-year-old Becky Wade.
A recent graduate of Rice University, Wade is an up-and-coming marathon star with oodles of potential. She won the California International Marathon in December of last year, finishing in a time of 2:30.41. That time made her both the fifth fastest American woman marathon runner of 2013 and the third fastest American woman marathon runner under the age of 25 in history.
Yeah, I’d say that’s a pretty solid way to start a career.
Wade said she’s excited about her new partnership with the shoe and apparel company:
ASICS’ unique brand spirit and constant innovation mirrors my ongoing pursuit of testing my limits in everything I do, especially when competing. In my young career I have already had incredible experiences that have helped me grow as a competitor, but the real journey begins with this partnership. I look forward to reaching new milestones in 2014, and feel confident as ever knowing I have this remarkable support every step of the way (Business Wire).
Wade spent 2013 traveling around the world thanks to earning the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. If you want to learn about her adventures, check out her blog.
