Jared Sullinger scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Rajon Rondo scored 19 points, dished out 10 assists, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals as the Boston Celtics put an end to their four-game losing streak, defeating the Orlando Magic 96-89 at the T.D. Garden in Boston, Massachusetts Sunday afternoon.
Nikola Vucevic scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Arron Afflalo had a team-high 18 points for the Magic.
The two squads played a fairly uneventful game, but things got better in the fourth quarter.
A 6-0 run cut the lead to 77-76 with 6:11 to go, but Rondo and Avery Bradley pushed the lead back to five. After Victor Oladipo hit two free throws to cut the lead back to three, Sullinger drilled a three. Oladipo again answered with a bucket to cut the lead to 86-82. After another stop, Glen Davis put Oladipo’s miss back in to cut the lead to two. Rondo answered on the other end with a jumper. After a stop, Rondo found Jeff Green for an opener jumper and the Celtics stretched the lead to 90-84. On the next possession, Vucevic was called for a moving screen and former Magic forward Brandon Bass hit a 16-footer to all but put the game away.
Bass finished with 19 points and nine rebounds and Bradley scored 17 points in his return after missing five games with an ankle injury.
The Celtics are now 16-33 while the Magic are 13-36.
