4-star defensive tackle Craig Evans committed to the Michigan State Spartans on Monday evening.
Evans originally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers in early January, but then a report surfaced that he would not be a part of the Badgers’ 2014 recruiting class.
According to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a source says Evans has academic issues and those “issues are a combination of Evans’ high school grades and his qualifying test score.”
The 6’3, 305-pound Evans attends Sun Prairie High School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, but thought about committing to Michigan State during an unofficial visit just over a week ago while he was still committed to Wisconsin.
“I was looking at committing to Michigan State on my official,” he told BadgerNation.com via Madison.com. “It felt (like) home to me. All the guys were cool, down to earth. Coach Dantonio did a lot for me.
“It hurt a little bit that I couldn’t go play for him because he did stuff for me that he didn’t do for any other recruit. It was hard, very hard, and I came very close to committing.:
Evans is considered the 20th best defensive tackle prospect, the second best prospect in the state of Wisconsin and the 220th best overall prospect in the country in the class of 2014, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
