The Georgia Bulldogs flipped two-star safety Shaquille Jones (Palm Bay, Fla Merritt Island) who had been committed to the Louisville Cardinals two days before national signing day.
The 6-2, 175-pound defensive back previously was committed to South Alabama before committing to Louisville on Jan. 22 but after taking an official visit to Athens to see the Bulldogs on Jan. 31, the flip was in the works because of Georgia’s hiring of Kevin Sherrer who had been South Alabama’s defensive coordinator.
Jones profiles as a special teams contributor early in his career as he adds strength and works on his technique after playing cornerback in high school.
The addition of Jones may come as a surprise because of his tw-star status, but this addition could have been a preventative measure in the chance that it loses safety commit Kendall Gant (Lakeland, Fla. Lake Gibson), who took a visit to Marshall last weekend.
Jones makes it 19 for the class of 2014 for Georgia who are hoping to land at least five-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga. Norcross) on signing day.
