Jesse Crain may miss Opening Day for Astros

With all of the activity that the Astros have been involved in this winter, it’s important to remember that some of their moves might not pan out exactly as they hoped.

Jesse Crain could fall under that category. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Crain says that it would be a bonus if he was ready to go on Opening Day. He hasn’t thrown since his biceps surgery in October, and is currently shooting for making an appearance or two in Spring Training. If he can get that far, he’ll consider himself close. He doesn’t anticipate having to wait too long after Opening Day to be ready.

Crain, who had a stellar first half with the White Sox last year before being traded to the Rays and not pitching for them, signed with the Houston Astros in the off season for one year at $3.25 million. He projects to be their closer when he’s ready.
