The calendar has flipped to the month of February and conference play is getting heated up as the cream begins to rise to the top and contenders are separated from the contenders. As the conference races are hotly-contested so to is the race for the Wooden Award, given annually to the nation’s top college basketball player, and there is no shortage of candidates.
The pool of candidates features some of the highly-touted freshmen that have dominated the headlines the first few months of the college basketball season, some upperclassmen, including players who opted to return to the college game and spurn the NBA draft and players from mid-major programs.
Michigan Wolverines point guard Trey Burke took home the award last year after helping guide his team to the title game against the Louisville Cardinals.
