The proverbial ‘rookie wall’. It’s something that nearly all freshman NBA players eventually run into, including Utah Jazz point guard Trey Burke.
According to head coach Ty Corbin, Burke, who has scored in double figures once in his past six games has hit that wall – but he’s hopeful he’ll be able to figure things out soon.
“Trey being a young guy, he just has to figure it out,” coach Ty Corbin said. “His body is probably hurting in places he didn’t think he had before. You go through it, you learn,” Corbin said. “Your body, you see things, you feel things. … It takes a couple years to fight through it and learn what you need to do to get yourself ready [for an 82-game season].”
It’s almost a right of passage for players as they become accustom to the NBA schedule, which is far more of a grind than the college level.
Burke is a month removed from Rookie of the Month honors, so hopefully his struggles will end soon.
