The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly involved in trade talks with many teams – including the Phoenix Suns who are attempting to acquire Pau Gasol.
While there’s been no confirmation on the parameters of the deal, it’s widely assumed that Gasol would be traded for Emeka Okafor (an expiring contract) and one of the Suns potential four draft picks.
As things currently stand, the highest draft pick the Suns would have is the 17th selection in the first round (that is subject to change, of course) – something the Lakers aren’t interested in, this according to Mike Bresnahan.
Main reason Lakers + Suns haven’t agreed on Gasol trade: Lakers want better draft pick than Suns’ current position (17th overall).
Earlier today, Susan Bible of Basketball Insiders suggested that the Lakers had too high of an asking price for Pau Gasol and she believed the Lakers would likely end up keeping him through the deadline.
I’m not sure if he’ll remain with the Lakers moving forward, but the fact the Lakers are asking for more than the 17th overall pick does jive with Bible’s report.
