With only a few weeks left until the NBA’s trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly involved in trade talks with a handful of teams – this according to InsideSoCal.com.
ESPN broke news a few days ago that suggested the Lakers were discussing a trade which would send Pau Gasol to the Phoenix Suns, but according to Mark Medina, that’s just one of many potential trade scenarios the Lakers are involved in.
The talks have been nothing but exploratory, and a source characterized it as one of many broader discussions the Lakers have taken in hopes of revamping their roster before the Feb. 20 trade deadline.
While moving Gasol to the Suns does make some sense, you have to think the Lakers could potentially do better than receiving an expiring contract (Emeka Okafor) and an at best middle of the first round draft pick in exchange (and that’s assuming the Suns would part with their best pick).
If that deal is still available for the Lakers come the deadline, maybe it’s a move they make but for now they can stand to wait.
