After the events of this past Saturday night, the Syracuse Orange were named the no. 1 team in the country earlier on Monday by the Associated Press, and just a few hours later, they went out and proved why as they pushed their winning streak to 22 with a 61-55 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish inside the Carrier Dome.
There was no hangover for Jim Boeheim and his team following that huge emotional victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night, although they were just a bit more sluggish.
However, for as sluggish as others on the Syracuse team may have played, Orange guard Trevor Cooney more than made up for that by having himself one of the best outings of his career, dropping in 33 points with two rebounds, two assists and four steals. He ended up being the only member of the top-ranked Orange to finish in double digits, but that was all they needed for the win in this one.
With the win, the Orange now move to an impressive 22-0 in the country, while Notre Dame drops to 12-11 overall and are just 3-7 in their first season in the ACC.
