Streak for the Cash Picks-February 3, 2014

Feb 1, 2014; Syracuse, NY, USA; Syracuse Orange forward C.J. Fair (5) handles the ball with Duke Blue Devils guard Rasheed Sulaimon (14) defending during the second half of a game at the at Carrier Dome. Syracuse won the game 91-89. Mandatory Credit: Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

After a Super Sunday that was a letdown for everyone except Seahawks fans, Monday starts the first full week of February on Streak for the Cash.  There are 24 picks on the board today to get things going this week.  We’ll start with Turkish Basketball if you’re in the red or are going for most wins before some English and Spanish soccer this afternoon.  Tonight, college basketball, the NBA, and the NHL give us plenty of options to build our streak if we can avoid those pesky upsets. Here are my picks for the day and my results so far for the month:

2/3 Streak Picks

10:30- Fenerahce: When the two teams met earlier this season, Fenerbahce beat Efes by 19 points, but they’ve suffered some major injuries since then.  This game should be closer, but I still will take Fenerahce who as won five in a row. Unless you’re in the red or going for most wins only, stay away. Confidence-3

May 25, 2013; Bronx, NY, USA; Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko (10) attempts to split Chelsea defenders during the second half at Yankee Stadium. Manchester City won 5-3. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

3:00- Manchester City Win: In a great EPL matchup Man City hosts Chelsea in a matchup of the #2 and #3 teams in the League.  The two sides last met on October 27 when Chelsea emerged with a 2-1 victory at home.  Now they’ll have to travel to Etihad Stadium where City is 11-0-0 in League play this season. Chelsea is a solid team, but I think City takes care of business at home. Confidence-6

3:01- Yes Manchester City leads at least once in 1st half: Since I think City will win and I’m not expecting a low-scoring game, I think they’ll lead in the first half. Confidence-5

4:00- Villarreal wins by 2+ Goals: Villareal is 11-4-6 in La Liga action as they take on Osasuna who is 6-4-11. The match will be at Osasuna, but Villareal cruised 3-0 when the sides met earlier this season at their home pitch. In their last four leage games, Villareal has won three by multiple goals and I think they’ll pull it out by two or more in this one as well. Confidcne-4 1/2

4:02- 16 or fewer: It’s a tough pick that’s basically a coin flip, but most goalscoring options are below 16 although any fluky occurrence can earn you red in a hurry. Confidence-3

7:02- Any Other Result: The Orange are favored by 13, but they are coming off a tough overtime win over Duke on Saturday as they face a tough Fighting Irish team.  In the ACC ND is just 3-6, but none of those losses or any of their ten losses on the season have come by 15 or more. I think the Orange win, but I won’t give the points. Confidence-5

7:03- C.J. Fair + Tyler Ennis: Fair and Ennis average a total of 29.6 points per game while Atkins and Connaughton average 27.8 points per game. This is just a first-half prop which are notoriously unpredictable, but I still think the Orange guards are the way to go. Confidence-4

Feb 1, 2014; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Villanova Wildcats forward Daniel Ochefu (23) dunks during the second half against the Temple Owls at the Liacouras Center. Villanova defeated Temple 90-74. Mandatory Credit: Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

7:04- Villanova wins by Double Digits: ‘Nova is 10 point favorites at home against Xavier as they meet for the first time in Big East play this season.  Villanova has won eight of their last nine overall and four by at least double-digits. Since they’ll be at home, I think Jay Wright’s squad wins and covers. Confidence-6

7:04- Morgan State Bears: The Bears are 4 1/2 point favorites at home, so don’t get tricked by the record. Confidence-5

7:05- Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers and Sabres have similar sad records, but they are headed in a different directions. Edmonton just fell in Boston but had won three in a row before that.  Buffalo on the other hand has lost six in a row at home and are just 2-5-3 over their last ten.  I’ll take the hotter of these two teams, but neither is good enough to inspire much confidence. Confidence-4 1/2

7:05- Portland Trail Blazers: The Wizards host Portland after upsetting the Thunder in their last home game to snap OKC’s 10-game winning streak.  While some streakers may be gun-shy after losing their streak’s Saturday to the Wiz, Portland still makes a good pick even though they’re only 1 1/2 point favorites. Portland snapped a two-game losing streak with a close win over Toronto on Saturday. Confidence-5 1/2

Jan 30, 2014; Denver, CO, USA; Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov (1) makes a glove save against the Minnesota Wild in the third period at the Pepsi Center. The Avalanche defeated the Wild 5-4. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

7:35- Colorado Avalanche: If you’re on a good streak and can wait through the early window, taking the Avs is the slow-play way to build your streak. They come in having won eight of their last ten as they take on the Devils who have lost three of their last four.  Colorado beat New Jersey in a shootout when the two teams met earlier this season. Confidence-7

7:35- Detroit Red Wings: In the other NHL 7:30 start the Red Wings host Vacouver.  The Canucks have lost their last three in a row and seven of their last ten.  Detroit also won the earlier matchup between these two teams out in the Pacific Northwest, so I’ll take the Wings to get the win at home despite their recent offensive struggles. Confidence-4

8:05- New Orleans Pelicans: The Spurs snapped their three-game losing streak, but now they have to take on the surging Pelicans as they start their annual rodeo road trip.  San Antonio will still be without Manu Ginobili, Danny Green, and Kawhi Leonard while New Orleans will be missing Ryan Anderson, Jrue Holiday, and Jason Smith.  Lately, though, all the Pelicans have needed is Anthony Davis who has let them  to an impressive stretch winning five of their last seven.  As long as Davis is active, I’ll take New Orleans as a four-point underdog at home to win outright. Confidence-3

8:07- 36 Points or Fewer: Syracuse averages 72 points per game but usually prefers to play games in the mid-60′s instead of the 91-89 win they pulled out over Duke.  I think this will be more of a low-scoring battle so I’ll take the under. Confidence-4

9:05- Los Angeles Clippers: LA rolled over the Nuggets when they met back in December, but will have more of a challenge as they head to the Mile High City to face them for the second time this season.  The Clippers have been playing well winning seven of their last ten overall and seven of their last ten games against Denver. I think they’re the right pick either way, but the status of Ty Lawson affects my confidence. If Lawson plays, Confidence-5 if he misses the game I’ll bump it up to a 6 1/2.

9:05- Toronto Raptors: Utah is always good at home, but they’ve struggled this year overall and continue to deal with injury issues as they host Toronto. The Raptors have become one of the best road teams in the league and are playing well, so I’ll take them to go into Salt Lake City and get the win. Confidence-4 1/2

Feb 1, 2014; Stillwater, OK, USA; Oklahoma State Cowboys center Kamari Murphy (21) shoots against Baylor Bears forward Rico Gathers (2) in the first half at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Baylor beat Oklahoma State 76-70. Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

9:05- Oklahoma State Cowboys: The Cowboys were upset by Baylor and now have to bounce back and take on Iowa State.  OSU hadn’t lost a home game all season, so I think they’ll bounc back and dominate in this one.  They are six point favorites at home. Confidence-6 1/2

9:05- Georgetown Hoyas: The Hoyas got a big upset Saturday over Michigan State to snap their five-game losing streak.  Now they’ll have to travel to DePaul who are just 2-7 in Big East play and have dropped four in a row. Confidence-6

9:05- Alabama A&M Winning Margin or Tie: Alabama A&M are five point favorites at home as they host Prairie View.  Prairie View has dropped their last two games to fall to 4-4 in the SWAC while Alabama A&M snapped a three-game losing streak (all on the road) with a win over Texas Southern to improve to 4-4 in conference. Since they’re at home, I’ll go with the Bulldogs who have won three of four in Normal, AL where they play their home games. Confidence-3 1/2

10:05- Chicago Bulls: The Kings have dropped seven in a row and are still expected to be without star DeMarcus Cousins.  The Bulls were successful early in January but have dropped three of their last five as they visit Sleep Train Arena. I think Chicago pulls out the road win in this one. Confidence-4

10:05- Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks have lost back-to-back home games at the Pond but are still 22-3-2 at home as they host the Blue Jackets who have been playing well lately, but Anaheim has dominated them lately going 6-1-3 in their last ten.  Look for the Ducks to get back in the win column at home. Confidence-6

10:35- San Jose Sharks- The Sharks are 20-3-3 at home while the Flyers are 13-13-5 on the road.  San Jose has won their last 11 against the Flyers and six in a row against Phily at the SAP Center. Confidence-7

10:35- Chicago Blackhawks: Chicago is coming off a tough shootout loss Saturday night as they visit the Staples Center.  They’ll face the Kings who have won lost eight of their last ten games including seven of the last eight.  LA is usually good at home but they’ve been struggling so much lately, I’ll take Chicago. Confidence-5
