The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl on Sunday night, which prompted fans back home in Seattle to start rioting to celebrate. Fans rioting after winning a championship is nothing new, as it’s almost some sort of sick tradition that goes on all over the world.

Fans in Seattle and the greater Washington area weren’t going to end that tradition as students at the University of Washington took videos of themselves rioting and starting fires after the Seahawks big win.

A local television station talked to one of the students who was rioting to get an idea of just what was going on. The student, known simply as “Chris”, stated that people were starting fires and then restarting those fires when police showed up to put them out.

Per kirotv.com:

"Chris said, “We burned couches. Then they came and they left. We burned more couches. They came and then left.”This cycle continued until well past 9 p.m. when police finally cleared the fire at 47th Street and 17th Avenue. When asked why they were burning couches, Chris said, “It’s good for the environment, probably.”He also said that many students used the phrase “YOLO”: you only live once."

The riots may have been fun at the time for the drunk fans lighting things on fire, but the situation was a dangerous one and the comments by Chris prove that there is no way to glorify or justify it without sounding like a tool.
