Streak for the Cash Picks-February 4, 2014

Feb 1, 2014; Gainesville, FL, USA; Florida Gators forward Will Yeguete (15) reacts and celebrates after forward Dorian Finney-Smith (10) dunks in the act of getting fouled during the second half at Stephen C. O

This Tuesday on Streak for the Cash there’s over 20 ways to build your streak with a nice blend of options from international soccer, college and NBA basketball, and the NHL .  We start with a jump start pick this morning followed by four soccer matches this afternoon followed by plenty of hoops and hockey from 7:00 tonight until the late games out West.  It’s been a tricky start to the month, but hopefully we can all get our streaks in gear since there is still plenty of time in the month. Each day, I’ll give you my picks for the day with a quick rundown of why I’m going that way as well as my confidence on a scale of 1-10. There is also a newly-minted Fansided group which is open to the public and free to join by clicking here of by searching for Fansided in the Group Directory page.  Here’s my picks for today and my results so far this month:

2/4 Streak Picks

10:30- Sparta Prague win or draw: This is a club friendly so it is always tricky to predict who will come to play. I’ll take the draw and Sparta Prague in this match which is happening in Spain so isn’t a home game for either side. Confidence-2 1/2

12:45- Feyenoord Rotterdam win: Feyenoord is 11-4-6 in Eredivisie play while Roda JC is 5-7-9. Earlier this season Feyenoord cruised 4-0 over Roda JC and should be able to get the win even on the road in this one. Confidence-5

2:45- Fulham Win: Fulham is battling for it’s EPL survival at the bottom of the table and now has this clash in the FA Cup.  Sheffield United is near the bottom of League One (which is two divisions down) but did earn a 1-1 draw with Fulham a week ago.  It’s not a sure thing that the Cottagers get a win here, but Sheffield needs to focus on avoiding relegation even more than Fulham, and since the game is at Fulham I think they emerge with the win. Confidence-4

3:00- Paris Saint-Germain Win: In this French Cup game, PSG takes on Nantes. In league play, PSG is a dominant 16-6-1 while Nantes is 10-3-10. The two sides met in Paris two weeks ago and PSG won resoundingly 5-0. While Cup play is always tenuous, I think PSG is a solid pick in this one as they go on the road. Confidence-6 1/2

3:00- Udinese win/draw: This is the first leg of the semifinals of the Italian Cup and it takes place at Udinese.  In this one, I’ll take the home team even though they’re lower in the table since they beat Fiorentina 1-0 when they met earlier this season and I think they’ll earn at least a draw in this one. Confidence-5

Feb 1, 2014; Champaign, IL, USA; Iowa Hawkeyes forward Jarrod Uthoff (20) lays the ball in during the second half against the Illinois Fighting Illini at State Farm Center. Mandatory Credit: Bradley Leeb-USA TODAY Sports

7:02- Iowa Hawkeyes: The Buckeyes are in freefall as they travel to Iowa who enter the game as six-point favorites.  It’s a bigger line than you can usually get straight up, but OSU has the name recognition and the ability to pull of the upset on the road, so proceed with caution despite the line.  Iowa is playing much better and is at home, so they’re my pick over the fading Buckeyes. Confidence-6

7:03- 1st Half Leading Scorer plays for Ohio State or Tie: The tie is a big deal in this one, and it could really go either way. Overall, this is a prop to stay away from. Confidence-2

7:04- Kansas Jayhawks: KU is coming off dropping its first Big 12 game of the season after losing on the road at Texas. Now they head to Baylor to take on the Bears coming off their biggest win of the Conference season after upsetting Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Jayhawks still come in as 3 1/2 point favorites and should be able to get the win even in a hostile environment. Confidence-5

7:04- Kentucky wins by Double Digits: UK is favored by 12 at home over Ole Miss who lost by 15 in their last road game at Tennessee.  The Wildcats won by five on the road at Mizzou on Saturday and have been good at Rupp Arena where they’ve won all 13 games they’ve played this season 10 by double digits. Confidence-5 1/2

7:05- New York Rangers: The Avs are on the back half of back-to-back road games while the Rangers have won three in a row by a combined 13-5 margin. It’s a coin-flip pick in my opinion, so I’ll go with the home team. Confidence-3

7:05- Winnipeg Jets: Both the Jets and ‘Canes are playing well, but Winnipeg is 8-2-0 in their last ten under their new head coach including four of five on the road. Confidence-4

7:05- Boston Bruins: The Bruins host Vancouver in a rematch of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. The two teams are trending in opposite directions right now with Boston 7-2-1 in their last 10 while Vancouver is 3-7-0. Boston’s 21-6-2 record at the TD Garden only makes them a stronger pick as they face the Canucks. Confidence-6

7:35- Washington Capitals: The Caps host the Isles who have lost five in a row as they look to win their fourth game in their last six. Washington is trying to climb back into the playoff picture while the Islanders are unraveling. Confidence-5 1/2

7:35- Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs are rolling behind Phil Kessel right now and come in a red hot 9-1-1 in their last 11 games.  Florida has lost their last three and hasn’t gotten any help from goalie Tim Thomas who could be in for a long night in front of the Leafs onslaught. Confidence: 7

7:35- Indiana Pacers: The Pacers have won three of four as they take on Atlanta who has been putting up plenty of points in what should be a contrast of styles. The Pacers on the road aren’t as good as they are at home, but I’m still confident they get the win in this one even though they are on a back-to-back. Confidence-6

8:05- Minnesota Wild: The Lightning are struggling with injuries on offense and the Wild have won their last three at home.  Tampa has struggled traveling to Minnesota with a 2-5-0 record there all-time. Confidence-4

8:07- Ohio State first 3PM in 2nd Half: The Buckeyes make more three’s, but this is a prop that can easily go either way. Confidence-3

9:05- Any Other Result+: The Dukees are favored by 18 at home, but Wake Forest has lost just once by that margin all season.  I think Duke wins this one comfortably, but Wake stayed within 10 against the Orange who just beat Duke, so I think they can keep this one within 20. Confidence-4 1/2

9:05- Florida wins by Double Digits: Florida always wins big at home and are 12 1/2 point favorites over Missouri. Confidence-6

9:05- Phoenix Coyotes: Phoenix is good at home as they showed by knocking off the Penguins in their last home game. Now they’ll take on an in-form Stars team in what should be a very well-played, hard-fought game. It’s a close one, so I’ll lean to the home team. Confidence-4

9:07- 194 Points or Fewer: The Suns like to play high-scoring games but the Bulls play tough D and slow things down.  It’ll be an interesting contrast in styles, but I’m leaning under especially since when the two teams met earlier this season the total was just 179. Confidence-5
