During the San Francisco 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game back on January 19, linebacker NaVorro Bowman blew out his knee when making a big stop in the second half. Bowman was later diagnosed with a torn ACL.

On Tuesday, Bowman had surgery to repair the tear and Bill Williamson of ESPN.com has the scoop.

"A league source confirmed Bowman’s knee is being repaired by renowned surgeon James Andrews in Florida. The 49ers will have a presence there as Bowman begins his rehabilitation.Bowman suffered the injury while stripping the ball at the goal line in the 49ers’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. He also suffered damage to his MCL."

Bowman also injured his MCL so doctors had to wait for Bowman’s MCL to heal before they could perform surgery on his ACL.

Bowman, who is one of the league’s elite linebackers, finished the season with 145 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 4.0 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.
