California guard Justin Cobbs was voted the Pac-12 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Cobbs averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 assists in Cal’s two games this week to earn the award.
Most notably, Cobbs led the Golden Bears in the upset of the week with a victory over No. 1 Arizona on Saturday with a game-high 19 points and seven assists. With the game tied at 58-58, Cobbs hit the game-winning shot with one second left, connecting on a fade-away jumper over Wildcat center Kaleb Tarzewski. He scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, including all 12 of Cal’s points in the final 11 minutes of the game.
In the loss to Arizona State on Wednesday, Cobbs scored 21 points and had three steals to go along with three assists. The senior played 73 of a possible 85 minutes over the two games.
With his point total for the week, Cobbs moved into 19th on Cal’s all-time scoring list with 1,269 career points.
The conference weekly honor is the fifth of Cobbs’ career and second this season. He is the second Golden Bear to receive weekly recognition this season. Cobbs is California’s 51st conference player of the week selection all-time.
