Damon Webb (Detroit, Mich. Cass Technical) committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Jan. 13 and on the eve of national signing day showed his Buckeye allegiance when he took some shots at “the school up north” as he had some less-than-complimentary words on the Michigan Wolverines.
“They’re not getting better,” Webb tells Sports Illustrated. “The coaches aren’t developing their talent.”
Music to the ear of Ohio State fans who will welcome the nation’s No. 35 recruit and No. 5 cornerback and No. 2 player in the state of Michigan according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Webb grew up a Michigan fan and looked at cornerback and Heisman winner Charles Woodson as an idol, but despite these facts and his high school serving as a pipeline to Ann Arbor, the 5-11, 180-pound corner had to go look elsewhere.
Chalk another feather in the cap of Urban Meyer and another strike against Michigan head coach Brady Hoke who has recruited fairly well, but his shortcomings after a down season in 2013 cost him a shot at one of the state’s top talents.
