UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has never been one to mince words. The ever confident champion has no problem calling out other fighters, whether they compete in boxing or MMA. Today, however, Jon Jones has called out a much different opponent. Jones has offered to fight Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground Law’ poster boy, George Zimmerman, in a celebrity boxing match. Zimmerman, who became infamous after he was acquitted of the murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin, last week stated that he would be fighting in a celebrity boxing match on March 1st.
Jon Jones caught wind of Zimmerman’s plans, and offered to be his opponent:
If this "celebrity" boxing match wasn't in march, I'd gladly oblige Zimmerman.

Of course this is much different than when Jones offered to box either of the Klitschko brothers. Obviously this match never occur, but it is newsworthy nonetheless. Zimmerman’s acquittal was one of the more controversial decisions in the last twenty years and truly had a nationwide impact. Many African American families believed that justice was not served, including many professional athletes.
In the end, it is truly deplorable that Zimmerman is trying to use his notoriety and label himself a ‘celebrity’. It is even worse that he is attempting to make money off of a ‘celebrity’ boxing match. At least if Jon Jones was his opponent fans could rest assured that Zimmerman would get what is coming to him.
