Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel isn’t a guy who often toots his own horn, but when it comes to his teams defense, he has a right.
The Pacers are an elite defensive squad – so elite that Vogel recently suggested they were the NBA’s version of the Seattle Seahawks.
“I see a lot of us in the Seattle Seahawks: a dominant defense. I think defense like theirs is something we can attain in terms of being dominant on the defensive end. What struck me and the message I gave our guys today is they won with their defense, but they had no turnovers. They didn’t beat themselves on the offensive end, and that’s the area we have to get to.”
Maybe a little bit of an odd comparison, but, it’s hard to disagree as the Pacers have become a dominant defensive squad.
The Pacers are currently holding their opposition to a .413 shooting percentage. The Oklahoma City Thunder rank second, well behind at .428 percent. Indiana also ranks first in points allowed, giving up a paltry 90.2 points per game.
