NBA Rumors: Washington Wizards want to re-sign Trevor Ariza, not trade him?

Many NBA insiders feel the Washington Wizards may trade Trevor Ariza come the upcoming deadline, but according to CSNWashington.com the Wizards appear to be hopeful they can re-sign Ariza at season end.

Based on the 2014 free-agent pool, which isn’t that special, and the way Trevor Ariza is playing for the Wizards he’s going to heavily sought after in the offseason. Trust, the Wizards realize it, and barring an unforeseen circumstance they’re going to do their best to retain the 6-8 forward.

Ariza is considered to be a relatively solid wind defender, something a handful of teams (say like the Charlotte Bobcats) have expressed interest in obtaining. So it comes as a bit of a shock that the Wizards are looking to keep Ariza rather than trade him given his presumed value in the trade market.

Of course, a lot can happen in the coming days but it’s possible the Wizards don’t feel they’ll be able to obtain enough for Ariza in a trade and he’s more serviceable remaining on their roster moving forward.

Guess we’ll find out soon.

Excellent news. I hope we’re able to do it. However, we should remember Ariza balled out the last time he was going to become a free agent (played for Lakers) then disappeared for the Rockets he got his deal. Nonetheless, hope we resign and keep our chemistry rolling.

Ariza has been the same player since Wall came back last year. Adjust for him playing 6 more minutes per game this year than post-all star break last year and he was actually better last season.

He’s a great fit, it’s hard to argue that he’s not our 2nd best player right now.
