Ondrej Palat Named NHL Rookie of the Month

The NHL has announced its Rookie of the Month for the month of January, and it’s no surprise that Tampa Bay’s Ondrej Palat was given the honor.

Palat scored 16 points in 15 games for a Lightning team that has had to get production out of their young guys while star player Steven Stamkos has been out rehabbing a broken leg.

Palat edged out fellow rookie, and teammate, Tyler Johnson for the award in January. Johnson had 14 points in 15 games for the bolts.

Palat now joins San Jose’s Tomas Hertl (October), Nashville’s Marek Mazanec (November), the Kings’ Martin Jones and Chicago’s Antti Raanta (December co-winners) as the NHL’s Rookie of the Month winners for the 2013-2014 season.
