I don’t work in the marketing department of a professional sports franchise, but if I did, I imagine it’s not a very easy job – especially for a small market team like the Kansas City Royals.
You’re constantly trying to come up with neat and innovative ways to gain attention for your team, which is exactly what happened thanks to some impressive billboards purchased (and apparently designed) by the Royals.
Driving around the city you’ll come across a handful of new billboards promoting the Royals’ upcoming season – billboards that appear almost interactive/three dimensional. No, you don’t need a pair of those ugly blue and red glasses, but what you will see is James Shields emerging off of the billboard or a fastball tearing right through the advertisement.
There’s not really a lot you can do with a traditional ‘paper’ billboard, but looks like the Royals marketing team put their thinking caps on and came up with something outside of the traditional box.
Have a feeling we’ll be seeing these used in different cities come the near future.
